Grand Rapids Spa – Restricted Water Flow Advice

There is a pipe that works as a water channel through the inflatable wall of your hot tub which is the route through the hot tub that leads to the filter housing on the control unit (see picture below). At either end of the pipe there are the relevant screw on fixings, one grey (internal inlet) and one black (external outlet).

If your Hot Tub has been set up incorrectly this can cause crushing of the internal pipe which in turn will restrict the water flow to the control unit resulting in various ‘E’ error codes ranging from overheating control unit, noisy control unit or non-heating of hot tub.

There are a number of things to look out for which can cause restriction of the internal pipe.

  1. Over Inflation of Hot Tub wall above filter outlet pipe (Ring 2). This will force pressure down onto the ring below and restrict the water flow – Solution: Let out some air on Ring 2
  2. Under inflation of Hot Tub wall (Ring 1).  Pressure from ring 2 will restrict the water flow – Solution: Inflate air on Ring 1
  3. Hot Tub set up on uneven ground. This can also be highlighted by a bulge on one side of the hot tub as the weight of the water is falling to the lower side of the hot tub giving increased pressure on the inflated walls. Solution: Empty the water and reposition on even ground.

Finally, to make a visual check on the internal pipe:

  1. Cap off the water flow using one of the supplied plastic caps on the internal Hot Tub wall at the filter outlet point.
  2. Unscrew the Black connector hose that runs to the filter housing in the control unit
  3. Look at the connector pipe inside the hot tub wall and feel inside to see if the channel is open.
  4. If the channel is restricted, place a thin smooth object into the channel (something like a wooden spoon handle would be ideal) and with small circular motion create the opening.
  5. Re-connect Black hose connector and take off internal cap and the water flow should be back to optimum flow again through the control unit.
