Enhance Your Spa Experience With Aromatherapy

Max Piggott

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing practice that uses natural plant extracts, often in the form of essential oils, to promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being. These oils are derived from flowers, leaves, roots, bark, and other parts of plants, capturing their aromatic and therapeutic properties.

Aromatherapy can be used in various ways:

  • Inhalation: Breathing in the aroma of essential oils through diffusers, steam, sprays or beads in your hot tub can influence mood, reduce stress, and improve mental clarity.
  • Topical Application: Oils can be diluted with carrier oils (like coconut or almond oil) and applied to the skin for massage or localised relief, aiding relaxation or soothing aches.
  • Bathing: Adding essential oils to a bath enhances the relaxing or invigorating effects of the warm water.
  • Environment: Infusing scents into spaces can create calming, uplifting, or energising atmospheres.

Commonly associated with relaxation and stress relief, aromatherapy is also believed to help improve sleep, alleviate certain physical discomforts, boost mood, and support overall health. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and wellness practices. So whilst you enjoy a lovely evening in your hot tub, why don't you add some scented beads to your aromatherapy cartridge and make your spa experience even better?

With a hot tub from Canadian Spa you can experience aromatherapy by inhaling soothing scents. Fill the cartridge with the aromatherapy beads of your choice. With a heated air blower they will release out of the jets if the air venturi is open (if you do not have a heated air blower, loosen the cap about a quarter turn and they will release into the air).

Lavender

Lavender not only looks lovely when blossoming in the fields of the Provence in France. This herb also provides a sweet smell and helps to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Many people find its scent soothing at the end of the day.

Chamomile

Chamomile has been used in traditional remedies for centuries and has a gentle, warm scent that many people find soothing. Why don't you make a chamomile tea as well to fulfil your chamomile experience?

Strawberry Champagne

This scent is clearly enjoyable when having a hot tub party. Its scent is fresh and cheerful.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus has a fresh, sharp scent that many people enjoy on cold winter days.

Green Tea

The scent of Green Tea is the perfect choice when you like a fresh and pure scent that has relaxing effects but at the same time energizes your body.

Spa-safe aromatherapy: how it works

Our aromatherapy cartridges are designed for spas with an aromatherapy basket. You screw on the dispenser lid and place the cartridge in the basket, and the scent is released as water flows past. Each scent lasts around 30 days and does not affect the water chemistry. They suit acrylic spas and portable or inflatable spas that have an aromatherapy basket.

What not to put in your spa

  • Essential oils straight into the water: they leave a film, clog filters and can damage the cover and shell.
  • Bath salts, Epsom salts and bath bombs: they upset the water balance and can cause foaming.
  • Bubble bath and soaps: heavy foam and cloudy water.
  • Flower petals and herbs: they break down and block the filter.
  • Candles on the cover: heat and wax damage the vinyl. Use battery candles on a side table instead.

Step by step

  1. Check the water is balanced: pH 7.2 to 7.6, free chlorine 1.0 to 1.5 ppm.
  2. Screw the dispenser lid on to the cartridge.
  3. Place it in the aromatherapy basket.
  4. Replace it after about 30 days, or sooner if the scent fades.
  5. Take it out before draining and refilling.

FAQ

Will it affect my water test?

No. The cartridges are designed to leave the water chemistry unaffected.

Can I use aromatherapy while pregnant?

You shouldn't use a hot tub or sauna while pregnant.

My spa has no aromatherapy basket. Can I still use one?

The cartridges are designed for a basket. Do not put them loose in the footwell, where they could reach the suction fittings.
