The Grand Rapids

Your first hot tub — arriving deflated in a courier box, ready for a soak the next day. Plug into a standard 13 A socket, fill from the garden hose, ease shoulders-deep into warm water. No electrician. No concrete pad. No delivery-day logistics. The warmest, simplest route into owning a spa we make — the honest first hot tub, with the LED light included as standard on this variant.

The Finish
One specification · no options
Faux-leather coffee · marine-grade vinyl

One finish, chosen deliberately. A reinforced marine-grade vinyl outer with a faux-leather coffee wrap lifts the Grand Rapids away from the paddling-pool look that sinks most inflatables — it sits naturally alongside rattan garden furniture and weathered decking. A 6″ inflatable thermal cover in the same family finishes the top; locking straps hold it down. Read the reasoning →

§ 01 · The Entry Spa

Your first hot tub,
from a courier box.

The Grand Rapids is our entry spa — the cheapest, lightest, easiest route into owning a real hot tub we sell. £499, 2–4 adults, 760 L of water, 110 air-powered massage jets and a 1940 W heater, all plugging into a standard UK 13 A socket. No electrician. No concrete pad. No HGV, no crane, no delivery logistics to plan around.

Honest framing on where it sits: a rigid acrylic hot tub in our range starts around £3,000 and ramps up from there. An inflatable at this price asks you to accept a handful of real trade-offs — air-powered jets instead of water-injected hydromassage, a longer heat-up from cold, a vinyl body instead of an acrylic shell, a starter chemical routine you manage yourself. In return you get the whole category for under £500, with a footprint you can deflate and pack away at the end of the season if you want to. That's the deal — and it's the right deal for a lot of first-time owners.

What's included as standard on this variant is genuinely good kit for the price. The LED light is in the box (this exact SKU — it is not an optional add-on). So is an aromatherapy canister with a sample kit, an digital control panel built into the pump unit, two Microban antimicrobial filters, a floating thermal blanket under the cover, a 6″ inflatable thermal cover with lockable straps, and a spare pipe-and-seals pack. Marine-grade vinyl outer in a faux-leather coffee wrap — real vinyl, not a two-tone moulded plastic imitating it (a distinction most inflatable rivals reserve for their step-up tiers). Mainland UK delivery is included in the price, not bolted on at checkout. Step up to our acrylic hot tub range when you're ready for a rigid shell — the Grand Rapids is the honest first spa.

§ 02 · Specced For The Price

Every feature earning its place.

The entry inflatable, specced honestly. 110 air-powered massage jets on a 3-speed system, a 1940 W heater that holds setpoint through a British winter, a 13 A plug that goes straight into a garden socket, Microban antimicrobial filtration, a 6″ inflatable thermal cover, and the LED light included on this variant. Not an acrylic hot tub — and not priced as one. Reviews sell this spa more than spec sheets do; the verified owner reviews below are the honest read.

01 · JETS
110jets
3-Speed · Air-Powered Massage

An air-powered jet ring runs the full perimeter of the tub — 110 jets across three speed settings, from a gentle fizz to a genuinely strong full-body massage. Owners consistently call the power out in reviews; on the entry inflatable segment the Grand Rapids runs stronger than the typical rival. Honest note: these are air jets, not the water-injected hydromassage you get on a rigid acrylic hot tub — the feel is bubbles, not deep-tissue pulse.

02 · HEATER
1940W
All-Season · Runs Below Freezing

A 1940 W heater paired with a 500 W turbo pump, tuned to draw close to the full 13 A for the fastest possible heat-up on a plug-and-play. Under the thermal cover, owners run these in ambient temperatures below 0 °C and the heater holds the water within 1 °C of setpoint. Honest framing on the first fill from cold: allow up to 24 hours to reach 40 °C — fill the day before, not the morning of.

03 · ELECTRICAL
13A
Plug & Play · No Electrician

Plugs into a standard UK 13 A household socket. No hardwiring, no electrician, no isolator to pay for. The one rule that matters: the spa wants a dedicated 13 A circuit — if the same ring is powering a kettle, tumble dryer or oven, the spa will starve. Run it off its own socket and it just works.

04 · FILTRATION
15ft²
Microban Antimicrobial Filter

The 15 ft² Glacier antimicrobial filter is Microban-infused — the media itself is treated to inhibit bacterial growth on the filter. Ships with two filters so you can run one and soak the other. Honest scope: this is antimicrobial filtration only — you still run a standard chemical routine. A starter chemical kit is sold separately.

05 · COVER
6
Inflatable Thermal Cover · Lockable

A 6″ inflatable thermal cover sits on the spa (not floating on the water) with locking straps across the top. Underneath it a floating thermal blanket sits directly on the waterline — two layers trapping the heat the 1940 W heater has just put in. On a 760 L tub, cover discipline is the single biggest running-cost lever. Keep it on between sessions.

06 · LED LIGHT
LED·included
Variant-Included · Not An Upsell

The LED light is in the box on this variant. It is not an optional accessory and does not price-shift the spa — this is the headline hook on the + LED Light SKU. Honest owner note we've taken from reviews: the LED runs on its own small unit, separate to the spa's pump wiring, so treat it as a light that lives with the spa rather than a perimeter mood-light system.

07 · CONTROL & AROMA
1pad
Digital Control Pad + Aromatherapy

A single digital control panel is built into the pump unit — one overlay touchpad for jets, heater, temperature and filtration. An aromatherapy canister is built into the spa with a sample scent kit in the box. One pad, one routine.

08 · BUILD
Vinyl
Marine-Grade · Faux-Leather Coffee

Reinforced marine-grade vinyl outer over a polyester-laminated PVC liner, in a faux-leather coffee wrap. This is the same vinyl spec used on the rapid-response inflatable lifeboats you see on British rivers and Canadian lakes — it has to take impact and abrasion in freezing water, which is why we use it. Rated for UK winter use, ambient below 0 °C with the cover on. Dry weight 35 kg, filled weight ~795 kg.

§ 03 · The Finish

One finish,
built to sit in the garden.

The Grand Rapids ships in a single specification — a reinforced marine-grade vinyl outer in a faux-leather coffee wrap, with a matching 6″ inflatable thermal cover. Chosen to pull the inflatable category away from the paddling-pool look and let it sit naturally alongside rattan garden furniture and weathered decking.

01

Faux-leather coffee outer, on purpose.

Inflatables usually look like inflatables. The Grand Rapids doesn't. A faux-leather coffee wrap over the marine-grade vinyl body gives the tub a finished texture — "the faux leather makes it look more expensive and less like a paddling pool" is verbatim from an owner review and is the honest read. It sits quietly in a garden rather than shouting from it.

02

Lifeboat-grade vinyl, built for UK winter.

The outer skin is reinforced marine-grade vinyl over a polyester-laminated PVC inner liner — not a two-tone moulded plastic pretending to look like vinyl. This is the same material spec used on rapid-response inflatable lifeboats on British rivers and Canadian lakes: it has to survive impact and abrasion in freezing water. Rated for UK winter use with ambient below 0 °C, cover on, heater cycling — the heater holds the water within 1 °C of your setpoint.

03

Cover + blanket, two layers of heat retention.

At 760 L of heated water, heat retention is the single biggest running-cost lever — and a smaller tub means the cover earns its keep faster. A 6″ inflatable thermal cover with locking straps sits on the spa between sessions; a floating thermal blanket sits directly on the waterline under the cover. Both layers ship in the box. Owners who add insulating boards underneath the spa consistently report £1–£2/day running costs — that's the owner-verified number, not our optimistic one.

04

LED light in the box.

The LED light is included on this variant as standard — it's the headline hook on the + LED SKU. Honest owner note we've pulled from reviews: the LED runs on its own small light unit rather than being wired through the pump's control pad, which means you switch the light separately to the spa. Treat it as a companion mood light rather than integrated perimeter lighting and it works well.

— One finish. Faux-leather coffee outer · 6″ inflatable thermal cover · Microban filter. No colour options, no trim levels. The Grand Rapids is deliberately the simple spa.

§ 04 · The Layout

Two to four adults.
One round tub.

The Grand Rapids is a 170 cm round tub at 74 cm depth2–4 adult capacity, 760 L of water, 110 air-powered jets running the full inside perimeter. Owners typically hold it at 38–40 °C year-round and climb straight in.

  • 01 / 2–4 ADULT CAPACITY
Two To Four Adults Round The Tub

Rated for 2–4 adults. Two sit with room to stretch out on the gel-cushioned base; four fits comfortably, not cosily, with knees towards the middle. Beyond 4 you're pushing the displacement — 2 adults + 2 children is where most households end up using it day-to-day.

  • 02 / 29″ WATER DEPTH
Shoulders Submerged · Deeper Than Most

At 74 cm (29″) of water the tub is deeper than most inflatable rivals — your shoulders sit under the water line on an average-height adult, which is the single biggest comfort lever in a cold UK garden. In a family with mixed heights, a water-filled booster cushion elevates shorter adults or children by a few inches so they sit at the same shoulders-under water line as taller users — the most common accessory owners add at the same time as the spa.

  • 03 / 110 JETS · 3-SPEED
Air Jet Ring · Full Perimeter

The 110 jets run the full inside perimeter of the tub across three speed settings. On filter-only the pump is genuinely quiet; on jet mode it gets loud, which is the honest trade-off on any inflatable spa. Run jets for a 15–20 minute session, drop back to filter-only to soak.

— A note on fit & base

The Grand Rapids needs a flat, firm, level surface sized to the 170 cm round footprint — a concrete slab, patio, sturdy decking (engineered for ~795 kg filled weight), or a purpose-built hot-tub base mat laid over grass. Don't drop it onto soft lawn, loose pavers or sloped ground. The base is gel-cushioned and thick, so a base mat isn't essential on concrete or a decent patio — we'd recommend one on any harder surface. If you want a rigid shell, family use year-round with water-injected hydromassage and longer-term running cost savings, step up to our acrylic hot tub range. Call 01293 824 094 if you'd like us to talk you through the right spec.

What's in the box.

  • The Grand Rapids inflatable spa body (faux-leather coffee outer · reinforced marine-grade vinyl · 170 × 74 cm · 760 L · 35 kg dry)
  • 6″ inflatable thermal cover with lockable straps
  • 2 × Microban antimicrobial filters (15 ft² Glacier)
  • Thermal blanket (floating on-water layer · sits under the cover)
  • Sample aromatherapy kit for the built-in canister
  • LED light (variant-included as standard on this SKU)
  • digital control panel (built into the pump unit · jets, heater, temp)
  • 110-jet 3-speed air system · 1940 W heater · 500 W turbo pump
  • 13 A plug-and-play cable — direct into a standard UK household socket
  • Spare pipe + seals pack
  • Free mainland UK courier delivery (5 to 9 working days from order)
Optional add-ons available separately
  • Starter chemical kit — required for water care, not in the box. Granules-based; enough for the first few months.
  • Microban portable spa filters · 4-pack — replacement cartridges for the 15 ft² Glacier filter housing. 4-pack lasts 4–6 months in regular use.
  • Floating tablet dispenser — for commercial / continuous-dispensation use only. We advise chlorine granules for a family spa; tablets can spike levels.
  • Water-filled booster cushion — for children or shorter adults to sit a few inches higher in the water, so a mixed-height family can all soak at the same shoulders-under line. One of the most-added accessories alongside the spa.
  • Inflatable spa steps — reversible curved-tread black plastic step.
  • Base mat — recommended on hard surfaces; the spa's gel-cushioned base doesn't strictly need one.
§ Optional · Round Spa Surround Furniture

Finish the scene around it.

The Grand Rapids already pulls away from the paddling-pool look with the faux-leather coffee wrap. If you want the garden-set presentation to go further, our round spa surround furniture is designed to sit flush against a 170 cm round spa — a planter, a step, a side table, a glass-top bar. Buy a single piece or assemble the full set. Priced and stocked separately.

— Designed for 170 cm round inflatable spas. Surround furniture ships separately from the spa; mainland UK delivery usually matches the spa's 5 to 9 working-day window.

§ 07 · Verified Owner Reviews

What owners
actually say.

Reviews sell the Grand Rapids harder than spec sheets do. These are verified owners — genuine buyers of this exact inflatable — describing the real ownership experience. We've kept the caveats in (the LED runs on its own unit, not wired into the pump; the cover that occasionally needs re-inflating) rather than scrubbing them out.

Sturdy And Cost-Efficient Tub

Really great buy. Easy to set up and fill. Very sturdy for an inflatable and energy efficient. Followed advice and bought a thermal cover and put insulated boards underneath the tub to retain heat. Works very well.

Running costs are £1–£2 a day which I think is brilliant.

Simple · Fast Delivery · Fits 4 At A Squeeze

Fast delivery. Easy to construct. Works great. Fits 4 at a squeeze. Technically you don't need a foam mat underneath as the base is thick and gel-filled. Pump is quiet on filter/heater mode, and noisy on bubble mode.

Spare pipe and seals are included, which is nice. Very pleased overall.

Affordable Luxury · Better Than The Rivals On Depth

Set up is quick and easy. The faux leather makes it look more expensive and less like a paddling pool. The jets are good strength and run all through the tub. I like the Canadian spa better than the Lay-Z-Spa's for the extra depth — living in a cold place like the UK, it's great to have that added depth of water above your shoulders.

A good price and it does fit 4 cosily. Loses a star because the lid occasionally deflates, and the LED isn't wired into the spa's own electrics — it runs on its own unit.

Nice compact size, stylish coffee leather-look outer, and it's operational below zero — we've had ours running through a cold snap with no issues.

Lovely Bubbly Hot Tub

Easy to set up — just make sure you line up the pipes with the holes before you inflate it. It's easy to use and the bubbles are lovely and give you a good massage. I'd say it would be a tight squeeze for 4 people to fit in, but it heats up quickly.

Better Filter Than I Was Used To

Great product. I've had several inflatable spas over the years and although they were good, this spa is an improvement — the filter system is much better. The water remains clearer and I haven't had to use anti-foam additive yet, one month on. I had a concern about the liner and a replacement was sent out immediately at no cost. The quality is what you'd expect on a much more expensive spa, and at this price the value is excellent.

I particularly like that you can choose the intensity of the bubbles with three separate settings. If you're considering an inflatable spa, the Grand Rapids is my recommendation — it looks great and does the job.

Light Enough For One Person To Set Up

A great portable hot tub. The price is a big plus. It's light enough for one person to carry and set up — the main unit inflates the tub, so you don't have to worry about it. The temperature goes up to 105°F which is nice but won't burn you. We've enjoyed it a lot in the three weeks we've had it, and it's been easy to learn to balance the water so we don't have to empty and refill every other week. Well worth the price if you're looking for a smaller unit to try before going for something more expensive.

Powerful Jets · Honest Caveat On Motor Noise

Motor is quite noisy when the jets are on, but unsure how that compares to others — they're really powerful and strong for a portable tub. The extra depth is perfect too — just be careful with little ones and vulnerable people, as the depth combined with strong jets is something to bear in mind. All in all we're very pleased with our spa.

This is my first hot tub and it's a great purchase. The heat pump is a little noisy but I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to sound. § 08 · Before You Buy

Questions worth asking.

Is an inflatable really a "proper" hot tub?

Honest answer: it's a proper hot tub for the price, with genuine trade-offs versus a rigid acrylic shell. What you get for £499: 760 L of heated water to 40 °C, 110 air-powered massage jets on 3 speeds, a 1940 W heater that holds setpoint through UK winter, a 6″ inflatable thermal cover, Microban antimicrobial filtration and an digital control pad. That is a working spa, not a toy.

What you don't get: the deep-tissue feel of water-injected hydromassage, the 6 kW fast heat-up of an acrylic heater, a rigid shell that never needs re-inflating, the 2yr + 10yr warranty architecture of the acrylic range. If any of those matter more than the £2,500+ price gap, step up to our acrylic hot tub range. If the goal is to own a hot tub this summer with a £499 budget and a 13 A plug, the Grand Rapids is the right spa.

How is the Grand Rapids delivered? (No HGV, no crane)

By standard courier, in a box, deflated. No HGV, no crane, no delivery-logistics phone call before you order. The box is heavy-ish (~35 kg) but two people can carry it from a van, through a garden gate, to wherever you want the spa to sit. Mainland UK delivery is free and typically lands within 5 to 9 working days of order.

Once the box is in the garden: unfold the spa on its base, attach the supplied inflation hose from the pump unit, let the pump inflate the spa (it takes 5–10 minutes), connect the garden hose to fill, plug into the nearest 13 A socket and let the heater do its work. The heater is tuned to draw close to the full 13 A — the fastest possible heat-up on a plug-and-play spa — but from a cold mains fill we advise budgeting up to 24 hours to reach 40 °C. In practice it's often quicker; we quote 24 to be honest rather than optimistic. Plan the fill for the day before your first soak.

What electrical supply does it need? (13 A plug-and-play)

A standard UK 13 A household socket. The plug is on the pump cable — you plug it straight in, no electrician, no isolator, no armoured-cable first-fix. This is the whole point of the plug-and-play category.

The one rule that matters: the spa wants a dedicated 13 A circuit. A 13 A ring that is simultaneously powering a kettle, a tumble dryer, an oven or another heavy appliance will starve the spa — the heater pulls close to the full 13 A on its own and doesn't like sharing. If you're plugging into a garden-shed socket that shares its ring with indoor appliances, either run a dedicated outdoor socket (20-minute job for a local electrician — not required by us, just a good idea) or run an extension lead straight off a known-quiet circuit. Avoid thin extension leads and garden-reel extensions; a short, thick-gauge run is fine.

What base does it need?

A flat, firm, level surface sized to the 170 cm round footprint, rated for the filled weight of approximately 795 kg. Acceptable bases: concrete slab or patio, existing paved patio in good condition, sturdy decking that was engineered for that filled weight, or a purpose-built hot-tub base mat laid over flat grass.

Not acceptable: soft lawn (the filled weight will sink unevenly and stretch the liner), loose pavers that can shift, sloped ground, or roof decking not explicitly engineered for hot-tub loads. The Grand Rapids base is thick and gel-cushioned, so a separate foam mat isn't essential on concrete or a good patio — we'd still recommend one on any hard or abrasive surface to protect the liner and add a thermal break. Ignore anyone who suggests "drop it on the grass" — that's the fastest way to ruin an inflatable.

What does the warranty cover?

12 months parts warranty, included as standard. Covers the pump, heater, digital control unit, and the liner/cover against manufacturing defect. No annual service required to keep it active. No tier to upgrade — inflatable spas sit outside the tiered extended-warranty architecture we run on acrylic.

What's outside scope: filters (consumables — replace every 4–6 weeks), chemical damage to the liner (running the water outside sensible chemistry), and misuse. In-warranty faults are handled by courier return of the pump unit to our Surrey base — quicker in practice than trying to ship a full-size hot tub back.

How much does the Grand Rapids cost to run?

Owner-verified running costs, pulled straight from reviews: £1–£2/day in summer, £2–£3/day in mid-winter. One owner puts it bluntly: "Running costs are £1–£2 a day which I think is brilliant." Those are real numbers from households holding the spa at 38–40 °C and using it multiple times a week.

Why it's cheaper to run than an acrylic hot tub: smaller water volume (760 L vs 1,000–1,400 L on acrylic) and a more modest 1940 W heater that cycles less aggressively. The cost-controlling levers on your side: keep the 6″ inflatable cover on between sessions, use the floating thermal blanket, and put insulating boards under the spa on any cold surface. Owners who do all three consistently sit at the lower end of the £1–£3 range. We're not going to claim "free" — there's no such thing — but honest day-to-day cost on the Grand Rapids is about half to two-thirds of a rigid acrylic.

How do the filters work? (Microban antimicrobial filtration)

The Grand Rapids runs a 15 ft² Glacier antimicrobial filter — the media itself is Microban-infused to inhibit bacterial growth on the filter. Two filters ship in the box so you can run one and rinse the other. Replacement cadence: every 4–6 weeks in regular use, sooner if the water is heavy-use or the filter is visibly discoloured.

Honest scope: this is antimicrobial filtration only — no additional sanitation system is built into the Grand Rapids at this price point. The Grand Rapids asks you to run a standard chemical routine on top of the filter: dichlor or bromine, pH balancer, shock. A starter chemical kit is sold separately (it's not in the box with the spa) and takes ten minutes a week to run.

Our house advice on chlorine: use chlorine granules, not tablets in a floating dispenser. Granules let you dose what the water actually needs each week, keeping chlorine levels flat. A floating tablet dispenser drip-feeds continuously and tends to spike chlorine levels between uses — fine for commercial or rental settings that need always-on dispensation, but overkill for a family spa that gets used a few times a week. If you do need continuous dispensation (commercial use, busy let, second-home rental), we also sell the floating tablet dispenser — just pair it with tablets, not granules.

Is it usable all year round in the UK?

Yes. The Grand Rapids runs in ambient temperatures below 0 °C and the heater holds the water within 1 °C of your setpoint with the cover on. The outer is reinforced marine-grade vinyl — the same spec used on rapid-response inflatable lifeboats on British rivers and Canadian lakes, so cold-water abrasion is not where this material gives up. "We use in all weathers" and "operational below zero" are both verbatim from owner reviews. The 6″ inflatable thermal cover is core kit for that, not an accessory.

Honest framing: we don't claim "-20 °C" or "rated to Canadian winter" on the Grand Rapids — that's not the honest spec. UK winter (frosty mornings, the occasional freezing night, cover on, heater cycling) is what's verified by owners and that's the claim we make.

Will 4 adults actually fit? (Rated 2–4)

Yes — comfortably for 4, if everyone is sitting rather than stretching out. "Fits 4 at a squeeze" and "fits 4 of us fine — 2 adults and 2 kids" are both direct from owner reviews and are the honest read. On a 170 cm round tub at 74 cm depth, four sitting adults with knees towards the middle is the intended layout; 2 adults + 2 children is where most family households use it.

A detail the reviews keep flagging: the 74 cm (29″) water depth is deeper than most inflatable rivals. On an average-height adult your shoulders sit under the water line, which is the single biggest comfort lever in a cold UK garden. For families with mixed heights — short adults, kids — a water-filled booster cushion elevates a seat by a few inches so everyone sits at the same shoulders-under water line as a taller adult. It's one of the most-added accessories at checkout, and the honest fix for the "kids sit too deep" note.

What's included in the £499 price?

Everything in the What's in the box list: the spa itself, 6″ inflatable thermal cover with lockable straps, 2 × Microban antimicrobial filters, floating thermal blanket, sample aromatherapy kit, the LED light (included on this variant), the digital control pad built into the pump, the 110-jet 3-speed air system, the 1940 W heater, the 500 W turbo pump, the 13 A plug-and-play cable, a spare pipe + seals pack, and free mainland UK courier delivery.

What we do not supply in the box: the starter chemical kit (sold separately — granules, not tablets, are what we advise), a spare 4-pack of Microban filters (the spa ships with 2; a 4-pack gets you through the season), a water-filled booster cushion (popular in mixed-height families — kids and shorter adults sit a few inches higher) or spa steps (both optional), and a base mat (recommended on hard surfaces — not strictly essential on the gel-cushioned base). Add any of these alongside the spa in the cart before checkout.

Can I use the Grand Rapids indoors?

In theory, yes. In practice, we advise outdoor use for inflatable spas. The reasoning is honest: an inflatable spa is a portable product with a typical service life of up to around 5 years. If an inflatable ever failed indoors — a seam leak, a pump-side water event — you'd be flooding the room it's in. That's a risk outdoors you just rinse away; indoors it can be disastrous for flooring, ceilings below, furniture and electrics. The liability maths only really work outside.

On a rigid acrylic hot tub the failure risk is much lower and indoor install is a viable option — but even there you need to plan for dehumidification and ventilation. Any spa throws off a lot of steam the moment the cover opens, and that humidity has to go somewhere. Rooms without purpose-built ventilation end up with damp walls and dripping ceilings within a season. If indoor hot-tub use is the ambition, speak to us about the acrylic range and get the ventilation spec right before the spa lands.

When should I step up to a rigid acrylic hot tub?

If the honest use-case is: year-round family use, multiple sessions a week, water-injected hydromassage rather than air bubbles, a shell that never needs re-inflating, and a longer warranty — the answer is step up. Our acrylic hot tub range starts around £3,000 and scales from there, with proper hydrotherapy seating, 6 kW heating, longer parts cover and a fixed installation.

The honest counter-case for staying with the Grand Rapids: budget-limited to under £1k, garden that may not be permanent (rented, moving, redoing landscaping), occasional use rather than daily, or a first-hot-tub trial run before committing to the bigger spend. Plenty of households own the Grand Rapids for two or three seasons, then upgrade — that's a perfectly reasonable path and one we see often.
