Vapor Barrier 6mil 4mil
Materials High-grade marine vinyl High-grade marine vinyl

Cover Care and Maintenance

Regardless of which cover you choose, proper care is essential. Regularly clean your cover with a mild soap and water solution, and avoid harsh chemicals. For rental properties, consider creating a laminated care sheet for guests. Read our blog about Cover Care.

Cover Lifters

A spa cover lifter is a valuable accessory that makes removing and replacing your cover much easier, prolonging its lifespan and reducing strain.

How taper and the vapour barrier work

Inside every hard-top spa cover are two foam panels, one for each half. They are shaped so they are thickest along the fold and thinner at the outer edge. That slope is the taper.

  • Taper: on the Original cover the foam runs from 5 inches at the centre to 3 inches at the edge. On the Proline it runs from 4 inches to 3 inches. The bigger the difference, the steeper the slope, so rain and melting snow run off faster instead of sitting on top.
  • Vapour barrier: each foam panel is sealed in a plastic wrap before it goes into the vinyl jacket. Warm, moist air rises from the water all the time. The wrap stops that moisture soaking into the foam. The Original uses a 6mil wrap and the Proline a 4mil wrap.

When moisture does get into the foam, the cover becomes heavy, insulates less well and starts to sag in the middle, which lets more rain pool and the problem speeds up. A thicker barrier and a steeper taper both slow that cycle down.

Which cover for which situation

Your situation Better fit Why
Your own garden, used year round Original Thicker centre, heavier vapour barrier and the longer 2-year warranty
Exposed site, lots of rain or snow Original Steeper 5 to 3 inch taper sheds water faster
Holiday let or rental with high turnover Proline Lower upfront cost where covers face more wear and are replaced more often
Short-term need, such as before selling a house Proline Lower cost for a shorter ownership period

Warranty in practice

The Original carries a 2-year warranty and the Proline a 1-year warranty. Like any cover warranty, it covers faults in materials and manufacture, not damage from sitting or standing on the cover, from chemical overdosing or from rough handling. Our cover care guide explains what to avoid so the warranty stays valid.

Tips for holiday let owners

  1. Fit a cover lifter so guests do not drag the cover off by its edge or handles.
  2. Leave a short, laminated care card by the spa: straps fastened, no sitting on the cover, and close it after every soak.
  3. Check the cover at every changeover for tears, standing water and broken straps.
  4. Add a Weather Guard to protect the vinyl from sun and grime between guests.
  5. Keep the chemistry steady. Strong sanitiser fumes bleach the underside of a cover, especially after shocking.

Finding the right size

Most of our covers are made for specific models, so the quickest route is to search for your spa's name in our replacement covers collection. For other spas, see our Deluxe square covers and Deluxe round covers, which come in standard sizes, and measure carefully first.

Frequently asked questions

Does a thicker cover always save more energy?

Thickness helps, but fit and condition matter just as much. A thick cover with gaps at the hinge or a waterlogged core can lose more heat than a thinner one that seals well.

Can I turn the foam panels over?

Yes. Turning the foam inserts roughly every six months, as our care guide describes, helps them dry evenly and can slow sagging.

How do I know if my cover is waterlogged?

It will feel much heavier than when new, and may sag in the middle or smell musty. A waterlogged cover should be replaced.

Do the covers come in different colours?

Colours vary by model and stock. Check the product page for the options available for your spa.

Need a new cover?
