Your Garden as a Training Zone: Why a Sport Swim Spa Beats a Traditional Pool

Xavier Labelle

Between work, family and everyday commitments, finding time for effective training can be a real challenge. The gym takes up time, and a traditional pool takes up space while really only doing one job: swimming. But what if your own garden could be a proper training zone instead, available all year, kind to your joints and genuinely versatile?

That is exactly what the St. Lawrence 13ft XSport Swim Spa is built for. It is a sport swim spa that combines resistance training, cardio, functional workouts and recovery in one unit, and it offers more than a conventional pool ever could.

A constant current for effective training

The heart of the sport swim spa is its WhiteWater Delivery system. Three powerful pumps generate a smooth, strong current of up to around 2,190 litres per minute, with adjustable intensity. You train against constant resistance, with no turns and no stops. The result is endless swimming against the flow, cardio workouts at variable intensity, full-body activation and joint-friendly loading for back, knees and hips.

An integrated stainless steel handrail in the swim area supports a range of exercise variations and can be used as a stabilising aid during training.

Cardio, strength and functional workouts in one tank

A sport swim spa goes well beyond simply swimming. You can use it for aqua-jogging against the current, core and stability work, water-based interval training and mobility sessions. The water itself creates natural resistance, training strength and endurance at the same time without any extra equipment, while cushioning your joints and spine. That makes it especially effective across a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

Recovery built in

Training is only as good as the recovery that follows. The St. Lawrence brings the workout zone and relaxing hydrotherapy together in one unit, with no need for a separate spa. 31 adjustable hydrotherapy jets, combined with individually controlled air and water pressure, help ease tired muscles, support circulation and aid recovery after harder sessions, all without any additional wellness equipment. Pair it with a resistance tether to add even more variety to your workouts.

Train all year, no end of season

A traditional pool is often a seasonal affair. A sport swim spa is not. The St. Lawrence is built for use 365 days a year thanks to a 3 kW Balboa heater with intelligent sensors, a heat-recovery system that reduces heat loss, premium three-layer insulation with closed-cell high-performance foam and a folding hardtop winter cover with locking straps. The water temperature stays stable whatever the weather, which is a real advantage over pools and seasonal training options.

Robust outdoor build quality

At around 3.9 x 2.3 x 1.2 m the St. Lawrence is compact enough for many gardens but still generous for proper training and aqua fitness. It uses a Lucite acrylic shell that is UV resistant, antimicrobial and resistant to fading, a fully galvanised steel frame for stability, a marine-grade base to resist rot and pests, a maintenance-free wood-effect PVC cabinet and efficient large-bore plumbing. Together those add up to long life, easy care and reliable outdoor use.

Atmosphere, audio and tech

Training and recovery are only part of the experience. The swim spa also offers premium LED lighting with two large underwater LEDs, illuminated water-line accents and backlit waterfall lights, plus mood lighting effects. A built-in Bluetooth audio system with waterproof marine speakers and a quality amplifier lets you play music straight from the training zone, perfect for an evening workout or a calmer cool-down.

Easier care than a traditional pool

Where a classic pool can mean a lot of upkeep, a sport swim spa simplifies most of it. A hard cover keeps dirt and insects out, a skimmer basket catches debris, an ozonator helps reduce reliance on chemicals, and a self-cleaning filtration system treats the water before it reaches the key components. The result is a system that is quicker to get going and stays cleaner with less effort over time. Stock up on replacement Microban filters to keep things running.

Swim spa vs pool: a clear performance edge

With the St. Lawrence 13ft Sport Swim Spa your garden becomes a genuine fitness and recovery zone. Cardio training, resistance work, mobility sessions and hydrotherapy all sit together in one unit. No gym, no separate pool and no seasonal limits, just integrated, performance-led training right at home.
