§ Compact Swim Spa · 390 cm · XSport · 3 Adults · 15 HP

The St Lawrence 13

Our compact-entry swim spa — the smallest footprint in the range, built for first-time swim-spa buyers and households without the garden, budget or depth spec for the flagship. 15 HP across 3 × 5 HP Balboa-controlled pumps, all routed to the swim end for a strong current-against-flow. The included swim tether holds you in place for serious stroke work, because a 390 cm shell is shorter than a stroke swimmer's lap. 31 adjustable hydromassage jets on the 3 contoured seats (2 Captain's Chairs + 1 Coach's Chair) plus 5 swim jets — 36 jets total. 390 × 226 × 120 cm · 1 × 3 kW Balboa heater · single 50 A hardwired supply.

One specification · no options
White marbled shell · brown cabinet & two-piece brown hardtop

One finish, chosen deliberately. A maintenance-free dark brown composite cabinet wraps the insulated chassis; the hardtop cover ships as two halves that velcro together in the middle, making it easy for one person to uncover just the spa end or just the swim end. White acrylic with understated marbling — the same finish as our Niagara flagship, scaled to the compact 13 ft shell. Read the reasoning →

§ 01 · The Compact Entry

The compact route
into swim-spa ownership.

The St Lawrence 13 — our XSport — is the smallest swim spa we sell, and it's deliberate. A 390 cm shell, 3-person seating, 15 HP across three 5 HP Balboa-controlled pumps, all routed to the swim end. It's the entry into proper swim-spa ownership for first-time buyers, smaller gardens and 3-person households that want the category without the flagship's footprint or price.

Honest framing on where it sits in the range: the St Lawrence 16 is our flagship — 19 HP Balboa ceiling, stroke-swim without a tether, 500 cm shell. The 13 is 110 cm shorter, 4 HP lower, 17 cm shallower. What that means in the water: the current on the 13 is strong enough for swimming against flow, aqua jogging and resistance training, and the included swim tether holds you in place for serious stroke work. Most owners keep the tether clipped in — a 390 cm shell is shorter than a stroke swimmer's lap.

Everything else is brand parity with the bigger spas. Same white marbled acrylic shell, same dark brown composite cabinet, same Mountain Pure™ UV + ozone sanitation, same LED mood lighting, same Bluetooth audio, same aromatherapy canister, same 2 cascading waterfalls, same 2-year parts & labour + 10-year shell warranty. One 3 kW Balboa heater holds the shell at setpoint year-round — most customers land around 35 °C, cool enough for morning exercise without overheating, warm enough an hour later for a proper soak.

§ 02 · Engineered In Detail

Every feature earning its place.

The compact entry in our swim-spa range — smallest footprint, full brand parity with the flagship. 15 HP across 3 × 5 HP Balboa-controlled pumps, all routed to the swim end for a strong current-against-flow current. 31 adjustable hydromassage jets on the three contoured seats plus 5 swim jets — 36 in total. Swim tether included as standard (and typically essential on a 390 cm shell). Same Niagara-tier acrylic shell, same Mountain Pure™ UV + ozone sanitation, same year-round insulation, same 2yr + 10yr warranty as our bigger swim spas.

01 · LAYOUT
3seats
Open Swim Area + 3 Contoured Seats

One shell, two uses. An open swim area driven by the 5 XSport current jets for morning exercise, aqua jogging and resistance training, and three contoured seats at the spa end — 2 Captain's Chairs with headrests and powerful hip jets, plus 1 Coach's Chair. One heated water volume, one 3 kW Balboa heater, one setpoint — typical owner setting is 35 °C.

02 · SWIM POWER
15HP
3 × 5 HP Pumps · Tether For Stroke Work

Three 5 HP Balboa-controlled pumps push a total of 15 HP of swim current through the 5 XSport jets — strong enough for current-against-flow exercise, aqua jogging and resistance training. On a 390 cm shell, serious stroke swimmers will clip into the included swim tether for sustained lap work — the shell is shorter than a stroke swimmer's lap by design. If you want stroke-swim without a tether, step up to the St Lawrence 16 — 19 HP routed straight into the swim end, swimmable without a tether.

03 · AIR-ADJUSTABLE
Air·tunable
Smooth Current Or Frothing Jets

Turn the air out of the water flow when you want to focus on stroke and breathing — a smooth, powerful riptide without bubbles disrupting face-down breathing. Dial the air back in for casual float-and-play and the massage feel. One dial, two completely different swim modes.

04 · SANITATION
UV+ O₃
Mountain Pure™ — UV + Ozone

The Mountain Pure™ sanitation system combines a UV-C lamp with a built-in ozone generator: the UV-C disrupts bacteria and viruses at cell level as water passes the lamp, while ozone oxidises organics before they reach the filter. Paired with the Silver Ion Glacier filter set — the same water-care package as the bigger swim spas, scaled to ~3,400 L.

05 · INSULATION
IR
Closed-Cell Foam + IR Cabinet

High-density closed-cell foam wraps the shell and plumbing; an infrared-lined cabinet reflects radiant heat back into the water instead of bleeding it to the air. Designed to hold a swim-friendly setpoint through a British winter without the running cost spiralling out.

06 · CONTROLS
1pad
Balboa Digital Controls · Single Zone

A single Balboa digital control pad adjusts pumps, jets, temperature and lighting with a single touch. Single-zone — one heated shell, one setpoint, unlike the St Lawrence 20's twin-zone architecture. Balboa is the control system trusted across the global spa industry for decades — industry-standard parts availability a decade out, not a proprietary black box.

07 · LIGHTING & AUDIO
2×
LED Mood + Bluetooth Pop-Up

Perimeter multi-colour LED mood lighting washes the full length of the shell at night. Two slow-rise pop-up Bluetooth speakers pair with any phone, plus an aromatherapy canister and two cascading waterfalls — the same ambient package as our flagship swim spas, scaled to the compact 13 ft shell.

08 · ELECTRICAL
50A
Hardwired · Single Supply

The St Lawrence 13 is hardwired, not plug-and-play: one dedicated 50 A supply fitted by a qualified electrician before delivery day. Same supply spec as the 16 ft flagship — three 5 HP pumps plus a 3 kW heater still draw well beyond a domestic ring. No 13 A socket shortcut — the swim-end pump stack pulls more current than a standard wall circuit can carry.

§ 03 · The Finish

One finish,
built to blend in.

The St Lawrence 13 ships in a single specification — white acrylic shell with understated marbling, dark brown maintenance-free composite cabinet, brown two-piece hardtop cover. Same shell finish as our Niagara flagship and the rest of the swim-spa range, scaled to the compact 13 ft shell. The cover splits into two velcroed halves so one person can lift off just the swim end for a session, or just the spa end for a soak.

01

White marbled shell · brown cabinet & cover.

White acrylic with understated marbling hides calcium waterline so you're not wiping the spa down every week. The dark brown maintenance-free composite cabinet is colour-matched to the cover and sits naturally alongside rattan garden furniture — same finish as our Niagara flagship, scaled to the compact 13 ft shell. No annual re-stain. No UV fade.

02

Two-piece cover, one-person lift.

The hardtop cover ships as two halves that velcro together in the middle. You can lift off just the swim end for a training session, or just the spa end for a soak, without wrestling a single 5-metre slab of foam. Add 2 × top-mount cover lifters (one per half) and the whole operation becomes one-handed. The lifters mount to the cabinet, swing up and over.

03

The cover earns its keep.

At approximately 3,400 L of heated water, heat retention is still the single biggest running-cost lever on a swim spa — and a smaller shell means the cover has a disproportionately big role to play. The tapered insulating hardtop — closed-cell foam core, locking straps across both halves — traps the heat the Balboa heater has just put in. Even on the 13 ft, the cover is not an accessory. It's core kit.

04

Ambient lighting washes the full length.

Perimeter multi-colour LED mood lighting runs the full length of the shell — swim end through to spa end. On a dark British evening, the LEDs carry colour across the water and illuminate the whole spa from the waterline. The two cascading waterfalls carry light too, so the spa looks good from inside the kitchen window, not just when you're in it.

§ 04 · The Layout

Swim end.
Spa end. One shell.

The 13 ft shell runs as a single heated volume with two distinct ends. Morning: the full 15 HP routes through the 5 XSport swim jets for exercise-against-flow. Evening: settle into the 3 contoured seats and the 31 hydromassage jets take over. One Balboa setpoint — most households land around 35 °C year-round.

  • 01 / SWIM END · 15 HP · TETHER FOR STROKE WORK
Open Swim Area · Strong Current-Against-Flow

The full 15 HP of pump power feeds the 5 XSport swim jets — strong enough for current-against-flow exercise, aqua jogging and resistance training. For sustained stroke swimming, the included swim tether clips you in place: a 390 cm shell is shorter than a stroke swimmer's lap by design. Turn the air out of the flow for smooth breathing, or in for casual float-and-play.

  • 02 / SPA END · 31 HYDROMASSAGE JETS
    Two Captain's Chairs + One Coach's Chair

Three contoured seats: two Captain's Chairs with headrests and powerful hip jets, and one Coach's Chair. Across them, 31 adjustable hydromassage jets target upper back, shoulders, lower back, hips, calves and soles; each seat has air venturi valves to tune jet pressure from a gentle breeze to a deep-tissue pulse.

  • 03 / 3-ADULT CAPACITY
    Three Adults Across The Shell

Total capacity: three adults. The 13 is sized for smaller households — first-time swim-spa owners, 3-person families, compact gardens. If you regularly host 5-plus in the water, the St Lawrence 16 (7 adults, 500 cm shell) is a better fit.

— A note on fit

The St Lawrence 13 is 390 × 226 cm — roughly a 13 ft × 7.5 ft footprint, the smallest swim spa we make. Minimum base 4.0 × 2.3 m of 6″ reinforced concrete pad (or equivalent-strength patio). Want stroke-swim without a tether? Step up to the flagship St Lawrence 16 — 19 HP routed straight into the swim end, swimmable without a tether. Need independent swim-cool + soak-hot temperatures at the same time with two people in? See the dual-zone St Lawrence 20 (594 × 228 × 137 cm · sealed bulkhead · two heaters, two controllers). Call 01293 824 094 if you'd like us to talk you through the right spec.

§ 08 · Before You Buy

Questions worth asking.

How does the 13 ft compare to the 16 ft and 20 ft?

Honest three-way comparison:

13 ft (this spa) — compact entry. 390 × 226 × 120 cm · 3 adults · 3 × 5 HP pumps = 15 HP · single heated zone. Smallest footprint in the range. The 15 HP current is strong for exercise-against-flow, aqua jogging and resistance training; the included swim tether is typically essential for sustained stroke work on a 390 cm shell. Shallower at 120 cm (vs 137 cm on the 16/20). The compact-entry proposition — first-time swim-spa buyers, smaller gardens, 3-person households.

St Lawrence 16 — the flagship. 500 × 228 × 137 cm · 7 adults · 1 × 4 HP + 3 × 5 HP = 19 HP, the ceiling of the Balboa control system. Full 19 HP routed into the swim end — strong enough for stroke swimming (breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle) without a tether. The best-selling swim spa in the range and the right choice if stroke-swim without clipping in is the core requirement.

St Lawrence 20 — dual-temp specialist. 594 × 228 × 137 cm · 5 × 5 HP pumps = 25 HP across two sealed zones (swim end 15 HP, hot-tub end 10 HP). Wins only if the household needs swim-cool (~28 °C) and soak-hot (~38 °C) at the same time with different people in. The swim zone is capped at 15 HP — so the 16 ft is still the better pure-swim spa.

Do I need the tether to swim in it?

Yes — typically you'll want to clip in for serious stroke work. The 15 HP current is strong for exercise-against-flow, aqua jogging and resistance training, but a 390 cm shell is shorter than a stroke swimmer's lap by design. The swim tether and harness are included as standard so you can hold position while working on breaststroke, front-crawl technique or sustained cardio.

One detail that matters once you're clipped in: you can turn the air out of the water flow. That gives you a smooth, powerful riptide instead of a bubbly washing-machine foam — crucial when your face is in and out of the water and you're trying to breathe without inhaling bubbles. Dial the air back in for casual float-and-play and the fun factor returns.

If clipping in isn't the experience you want, the flagship St Lawrence 16 (500 cm shell · 19 HP routed into the swim end) is designed for stroke swimming without a tether.

What temperature do owners actually set it to?

Most customers run the St Lawrence 13 at around 35 °C year-round. That's cold enough to climb into for a morning swim without feeling overheated five minutes in, and warm enough that after a longer session the water reads as a proper warm soak rather than a cool pool. The shell holds setpoint regardless of ambient weather — the Balboa heater, closed-cell foam insulation, and IR-lined cabinet do that work.

A note on thermodynamics vs. a hot tub you may have owned: a swim spa is a deep pool of water, so even when you're wading around at the spa end rather than swimming, you're submerged further and for longer than in a standard hot tub. Heat transfer into your body is higher. The rule of thumb most owners settle on: run a swim spa about 1 °C lower than the setpoint you'd use on a hot tub. If your old hot tub sat at 40 °C, run the XSport at 39 °C. If you set a hot tub at 38 °C, the XSport sits happy at 37 °C. Push higher and you'll feel lethargic from overheating before the session is done.

How is the St Lawrence 13 delivered? (HGV + HIAB still required)

The 13 ft is still an HGV delivery — smaller and lighter than the 16 ft flagship, but not something a domestic pallet truck can handle. Free flatbed delivery to mainland UK is included; you arrange a HIAB or crane lift from the back of the lorry onto your base. We do not book the lift for you — a local operator near you will nearly always be cheaper than one we book from Surrey.

Because swim spas are bespoke per customer, we build the delivery plan with you by phone before you order. Call 01293 824 094 with photos or a sketch of your access route — we work through HIAB reach, base readiness, neighbouring trees, overhead cables and electrical supply together before a deposit goes down. That conversation is worth doing before you order, not after.

Typical HIAB/crane costs for the 13 ft: roughly £300–£600 for a standard lift, cheaper than the 16/20 because the spa is smaller and lighter, more if the reach is long or the garden access is tight. The operator will usually do a site survey or check your property on Google Maps for free. Once on the base, our team fills the spa, walks you through the control pad, and hands over. Electrical connection is separate — see the electrics FAQ.

What electrical supply does it need? (hardwired — not plug & play)

The St Lawrence 13 is hardwired. There is no 13 A plug-and-play shortcut — three 5 HP pumps (15 HP total) and a 3 kW heater together draw more current than a domestic ring circuit can deliver. One dedicated supply is required:

  • 50 A supply (pumps + 3 kW heater) — 230 V

Same spec as the 16 ft flagship — three 5 HP pumps and a 3 kW heater still sit well above what a domestic ring circuit can carry. The supply sits on its own RCD in your consumer unit and terminates at an outside rotary isolator before entering the cabinet. Your electrician runs the armoured cable, fits the isolator, and leaves roughly 5 m of slack outside the spa footprint so our installers can bring the tails into the cabinet on delivery day. None of this kit — RCD, isolator, armoured cable, glands — is supplied with the spa. It's a straightforward job for any competent spark familiar with swim-spa installs, but please have them lined up and the cable run done before delivery. Electrical first-fix sits outside our delivery and installation service.

What base does a 13 ft swim spa need?

A 6″ (150 mm) reinforced concrete pad, sized to the full footprint of the spa — 4.0 × 2.3 m minimum. The pad must be reinforced (steel mesh or rebar), over a compacted hardcore subbase, with a properly power-floated finish. An equivalent-strength engineered patio (structural slabs on a rigid mortar bed over a reinforced sub-base, rated for the filled weight) also works — talk to us first if you want to go that route. Do not drop a swim spa onto grass, standard paving slabs, or decking that wasn't engineered for filled weight — we see cracked slab bases fail on swim spas every season.

If you want to run your base plan past us before pouring, send photos to the team and we'll check it.

What does the warranty actually cover?

Two separate layers, both included as standard:

2 years parts & labour — shell, pumps, heater, and control system. If something fails in normal use, we replace the part and fit it, anywhere in the UK. No annual service required to keep cover active — a condition some brands attach to void your warranty if you miss a year.

10 years against water loss through the shell structure — structural protection for the acrylic body.

You can also extend parts & labour by a further 2 years. Swim Spas sit at the top extended-warranty tier — £1,200 (vs £500 Patio Spas, £850 acrylic hot tubs). The extension is stackable — buy it twice and you get four additional years — and can be purchased any time while still under warranty.

How much does the XSport cost to run?

Running cost on a ~3,400 L swim-spa shell sits above the £2–£2.50/day figure for a standard hot tub, because you're heating roughly twice the water volume. That said, it's meaningfully less than the 16 ft flagship's ~6,475 L shell. Actual cost depends heavily on setpoint and use pattern — a household holding 35 °C year-round and swimming three mornings a week runs warmer than one that keeps it at 33 °C and dials up only for sessions.

Rough guidance for a typical UK household holding the shell at the 35 °C sweet-spot setpoint year-round: expect monthly costs broadly in the £60–£100 range, weighted toward the upper end in winter. Pairing the spa with a heat pump (Balboa Clim8zone II or similar) typically reduces that meaningfully. Call 01293 824 094 for a model based on your use case and tariff — we run the numbers honestly, not optimistically.

How do the filters work on a ~3,400 L shell?

The St Lawrence 13 ships with the Silver Ion Glacier antimicrobial filter set installed. The media is antimicrobial-infused to inhibit bacterial growth on the filter itself. Paired with the Mountain Pure™ UV-C lamp and built-in ozone generator, the result is cleaner water with fewer chemicals.

Replacement schedule: every 4–6 months, or sooner if discoloured. Keeping a second set on rotation is the standard owner trick — swap in a clean set on top-up day, rinse the used set overnight.

Who is the St Lawrence 13 best suited to?

Compact gardens, first-time swim-spa buyers, 3-person households. The 13 is the route into proper swim-spa ownership for households that want the category without the flagship's footprint or price. Typical buyers: couples and small families who want to swim for exercise (current-against-flow, aqua jogging, resistance training) without installing a heated pool, people doing low-impact rehab work, households looking for a warmer soak + occasional exercise rather than heavy lap training.

If you want stroke-swim without a tether, see the flagship St Lawrence 16 (500 cm shell, 19 HP into the swim end). If you want dual-temp independence — swim-cool and soak-hot at the same time with two people in — see the St Lawrence 20.

Is it usable all year round in the UK?

Yes. The whole design target is year-round UK outdoor use: closed-cell foam wrapping the plumbing, an infrared-lined cabinet reflecting radiant heat back into the water, and a hardtop locking cover. A 3 kW Balboa heater holds the shell at setpoint regardless of ambient temperature. The typical use pattern is to hold the water at around 35 °C year-round — cool enough to climb straight into for a morning swim without overheating, warm enough after a session to feel like a hot tub for the evening.

What's included in the price?

Everything in the What's in the shell list: the spa itself, 1 × 3 kW Balboa heater, 1 × Balboa digital control pad, brown two-piece hardtop cover, full LED mood lighting, Bluetooth pop-up speakers, aromatherapy canister, two cascading waterfalls, swim tether pole (included as standard), installed Silver Ion Glacier filter set, Mountain Pure™ UV + ozone sanitation (UV-C lamp + built-in ozone generator), all manuals, and free flatbed delivery to mainland UK. Optional add-ons: 2 × top-mount cover lifters (one per cover half), chemical starter kit, and the Swim Spa tier extended warranty.

What we do not supply: the HIAB/crane lift (arranged locally — see the delivery FAQ), the electrical first-fix (50 A RCD, isolator, armoured cable, glands — fitted by your electrician before delivery), or the concrete base. These three pieces sit outside our scope and are where most swim-spa delivery friction comes from — plan them early.

Can I see one in person before ordering?

Yes — and at this price point it's the right call. Our showroom is at Canada House, Unit 1, Salbrook Road, Redhill, Surrey · RH1 5GL. Ten minutes from Gatwick. Open Monday–Friday 9am–6pm and weekends 10am–4pm. Please call ahead (01293 824 094) for a swim-spa visit so we can have the right spa in the range set up and filled for a proper wet test.
